ai Maronti, Ischia (Napoli) Italy. c. November 1993.
"ai Maronti" or simply Maronti is the picturesque beach on the Island of Ischia. This
photo was taken when my cousin Carlo, who runs the only bakery in Santangelo, took
me for a little run in his small dingy one November afternoon in November 1993.
In summer, Maronti is the meccha for all the locals and German tourists. The sand is actually made
up of small pebbles which brushes off your body with a simple swipe. The water is clear and warm as
Ischia is a volcanic island. If you dig your feet into the sand you will notice that your toes will start
to get warmer and warmer. Maronti is made up of public and private beaches. Basically if you sit on the sand
then nobody will disturb you. However, if you sit on a beach chair, then you had beter have your wallet with
you. Being Italy, the beach is lined with bars and restaurants. I can think of nothing better than an espresso followed
by a cool glass of acqua minerale - Ferrerelle - of course!More Ischia
